A first birthday is such an important milestone for first time parents. We kept this tiny, vulnerable little being alive for one whole year, and now she is repaying us every day, showing us tiny hints as to who she is as a person. The first year was both the most wonderful and the most challenging year of my life. I didn’t sleep through the night once, yet I somehow found the energy to entertain my little one each and every day, falling more and more in love with her along the way. To mark the occasion, I really wanted to create a memorable day for my family and friends to come together and celebrate our little girl.

We purchased two balloon garlands from a local party planner and were blown away (pun intended) by their impact. The shiny gold balloons were beautiful and the color blocking unicorn mane was really on trend and unique.

These are a few personal touches I created for the decor. The letters are very popular right now and were actually fun to make thanks to my best friend, the hot glue gun. I added the leftover flowers to the 12 month photo display and the collage frame of all of favourite pics from Annabel’s first year. I also added a couple to the felt message board that greeted our guests as they arrived to unify everything. The highchair garland was a Pinterest inspired project made with a variety of materials from the fabric store. I’ll have to use it again for decor as it was pretty expensive for all those materials.
My amazing husband Steve, aka Dada, was in charge of all the food and desserts. He did not disappoint with his amazing spread. The highlight for me was the multicolored buttercream on the cupcakes. It looked (and tasted) like it was from a professional bakery. We are very lucky ladies to have this talented, dessert loving man taking care of us.
Her first birthday was a huge success. She absolutely loved being the center of attention all day and now we already look forward to planning her next birthday.
